The Shanghai International Automobile City was set up by the Shanghai Municipal Government in 2001 and was located in Anting, Jiading District in the northwestern section of Shanghai. The SIAC covers about 100 km², integrating multiple spaces and themes, including automobile trade, exhibition, R&D, test, manufacturing, Anting New Town, car racing circuits, and education. Till now over 100 billion CNY has been invested to support its industrial development. 

Automobile and auto-related industries are preferred and attracted into SIAC. Consequently, automobile industry has contributed to nearly 70% of the total GDP of Jiading District. Centering automobiles, the SIAC has prioritized four goals of development for automobile industry which are “green”, “intelligent”, “connected” and“sharing”.  The ultimate goal  of SAIC is to become a world-class automobile industrial cluster and culture center.
